5 Tips for Logo Design Love

1. Make it Memorable

Whether a wordmark or icon, pictures are more memorable than words, and provide a visual core for your corporate identity. Is your logo easy for clients and prospects to remember?
Try this: Can you draw your firm's logo from memory?

2. Make it Unique
Distinguishing your firm from competitors is one of your logo's most important tasks. The more unique it is, the more it will set you apart in the marketplace.
Try this: See if there is a common color or font used by your competitors. If so, eliminate it from your palette.

3. Make it Simple
Focus the design on one idea that reflects your brand and distinguishes you from competitors. Convey that simple idea clearly and with the least amount of detail.
Try this:Can you eliminate any element in your logo and still convey the same idea?

4. Make it Reproducible
In this age of social technologies, there are new challenges to a logo's design integrity that were never anticipated when it was conceived. From twitter avatars to apparel, pay close attention to how the logo looks across all marketing tools.
Try this: Does your firm's logo remain strong when big or small, or legible after being photocopied? (The photocopier still lives on!)

5. Make it Evolve
Your firm's logo should stand the test of time without looking dated. Use solid design fundamentals and avoid trends. A logo design is often updated to reflect the changes in a firm's leadership, services, markets, and brand.
Try this: List some of the changes in your firm since the logo was designed. Is it still accurate?

Keep in mind that your logo is the start of your story, not the story. It's a mark, not a definition. Having a logo assessment performed can validate it, or provide you with insight to keep your firm moving forward, relevant, and competitive. There are so many benefits to getting it right, from marketing impact and employee morale to brand accuracy which all results in more business. So, what does your logo reveal about your firm?
Try this: Ask five prospects/peers what your logo reveals to them about your firm.
